From Interior Design to Artist-Entrepreneur: Building My Business Around What Matters Most...Your Story

Sharing my journey from interior design into art e-commerce owner and illustrator. Come see what drives the beauty we share at Home-Illustrated!

Wow! I can't believe how fast 2025 is already moving! I'm thankful that the snow is trying to slow my roll, encouraging me to take a moment to look back at the incredible journey of creative entrepreneurship that brought me here.

Over the last couple of years I've been making the professional transition from in home interior design to artist/e-commerce entrepreneur.

It’s been a wonderful yet challenging journey going from transforming home interiors with a blend of beauty and personalized creativity, to creating wall art that shares those home's unique stories!

Design will remain a part of my new venture as it evolves. Only now I will be sharing my ideas and inspiration in my blog, mood boards and insights on social media. I'm learning as I go in this new online space.

One thing I learned in my years as a designer is that every home holds a unique narrative that isn't always easy to express with words.

Helping my clients personalize their spaces to reflect that narrative was one of the most rewarding parts of my experience designing homes.

Now, I'm creating a way to express that narrative through art, telling that story with enhanced specificity, warmth and charm.

As I embark on this new chapter of my creative journey, I want to honor the sacred space where, as an artist, I'm given the opportunity to translate precious moments into tangible elements of wonder.

Whether it is a home portrait, a custom painting of a precious memory, a nature inspired art print, or simply joy inducing stationery it’s all infused with the values I believe I am meant to share with the world.

Home portrait painted by artist Tracy Foster of Home Illustrated. Art that shares your story and makes your legacy tangible.

During the last two years of this transition, I’ve grappled with distilling those values into something I could easily communicate.

Ultimately it came down to four essential pillars that nurture creativity and define what I do at Home-Illustrated.

  • Joy: Art has a unique capacity to insert joy into our days and shift our perspectives in an instant. I want to be a part of amplifying that voice of joy in peoples everyday lives.

Nehemiah 8:10 reads,  "Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothin prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

I believe sharing joy strengthens us all. It disarms our capacity to hyper focus on things we can't control.

  • Order: Clear intentions give creativity the freedom to flourish. I want to help others embrace order as a tool for personal freedom, to breed courage to share the beauty within them with purpose.

Psalms 37:23-24 says, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.

  • Beauty: Beauty inspires everything I do at Home-Illustrated by capturing the essence of what makes life meaningful. I believe sharing beauty connects us all by fostering a sense of wonder.

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.

When good is ultimately resurrected from bad, it overwhelms us with beauty.

  • Wonder: When joy disarms our doubts long enough for faith to make order out of chaos and beauty is the fruit of that experience, it inspires wonder in those who are watching and wonder breeds hope.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

I want to champion hope through the creativity and gifts God blessed me with. These principles not only shape my creative process but also Home-Illustrated’s core mission of creating atmospheres of wonder.

When I see how these values come alive in front of me, as a an art print transports someone to their happy place, a custom portrait becomes a family heirloom or a planner clears enough headspace for creativity to thrive, I know I’m on the right path.

Planner To Do list by Carpe Diem for all your New Year's plans. At Home Illustrated we hope joy, beauty and order surround your doings in 2025!

My intension this year is to continue growing this platform, not just as a business, but as a place where art and design becomes a conversation and encourages others.

Whether they are hanging a new wall art print in a nursery, or jotting down goals, may each piece of art, each blog post and every interaction with Home-Illustrated be a reminder of the value we bring to the world, simply by sharing the beauty born of our stories.

Beautiful wall art prints bringing joy to a playroom through art that tells the story of woodland animals created by Home Illustrated's own artist Tracy Foster.

Here’s to a year of bringing more joy, order, and beauty into the world, one brushstroke at a time. Let’s make 2025 a year of sharing our narratives through art, together.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. The moments we all cherish and the beauty they bring to life are the heart of what we do at Home-Illustrated.

May you all have a Blessed and Happy New Year!
